In a recent interview, Portia de Rossi spoke about the difference in feeling 'settled' and permanent following her wedding to Ellen DeGeneres. Now she says every day of their lives is a public protest against California's Proposition 8. I ask President Obama and US legislators the same questions I asked of our Canadian MPs in our fight for same sex marriage: 1. If convicted heterosexual criminals can be married and enjoy conjugal benefits, how good and how distinguished and how law abiding must we be to be equal? 2. How long must we wait to be equal, after 3200 years of religious, legal, and medical repudiation? 3. How do you want to be remembered by history? Let's hope the US wakes up and recognizes we are not a threat to the family and fabric of society, but part of it.
